Safety at the Glenview Park District
The Glenview Park District wants to make their recreation facilities safe for all to enjoy. As a result they have made the following provisions in order to protect participants.
Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System
Participants in outdoor recreation at the Glenview Park District are protected by Thor guard lightning prediction systems. This state-of-the-art system actually predicts when conditions are right for lightning strikes rather than simply detecting actual strikes. This feature allows for earlier warnings and gives park district participants more time to take shelter from an approaching storm.
When the system detects high levels of electrical activity the unit sends a signal to activate horns and strobe lights. These horns emit one prolonged blast and the strobe light will continue flashing till the all clear horns sound. This is the warning for all outdoor activities to cease. When Thor guard determines that the threat of lightning strikes has passed, three shorter horn blasts are emitted and the strobe light will shut off. This indicates that outdoor activities may resume, but activities should wait an additional 20 minutes for safety purposes.
Automated External Defibrillators
The Glenview Park District has purchased and placed into service 17 automated external defibrillators, or AED’s. An AED allows lay persons to take advantage of sophisticated lifesaving medical technology. These units, when applied to the chest of a cardiac arrest patient, are designed to interpret heart rhythms and if needed, deliver a potentially life-saving electrical shock. This shock can allow a heart to return to its normal heart rhythm even before paramedics arrive on the scene.
AEDs are located at the Glenview Park Golf Club, Glenview National 9 Golf Club, Roosevelt Pool, Flick Pool, the Glenview Tennis Club, The Grove, The Redfield Estate, Park Center, Wagner Farm, Glenview Ice Center, the Tyner Center, and the park district Administration building. Park district staff at these locations have been prepared to use these devices through a comprehensive training program covering both CPR and AED’s. In-service training and re-certification keeps these employees ready for any emergency.
Liability Policy
The Glenview Park District assumes no risk or legal liability for injuries associated with a park district program. Participants in all park district programs must sign a waiver of liability as part of their program registration. Be sure to check your own insurance coverage before registering for any park district program or activity.
